Title:Equestrian Manager

Position Summary:
Oversee operational and program management of multi-level equine programs including all facilities, equipment, and horse responsibilities.
Essential Duties:
  • Inventory, set up, and maintain horse barn facility and equipment
  • Schedule, conduct, and oversee riding times and all other lessons pertaining to horses
  • Supervise all Equestrian assistants and other staff or volunteers assisting with equestrian activities.
  • Assure that all operations follow Safety-Wise, ACA and Camp Logan guidelines
  • Review/revise as necessary procedures for all horse related activities
  • Maintain and submit all required records
  • Assist in other areas of camp as needed
  • Responsible for total care of all horses at camp
  • Function as an effective member of the camp staff community
  • Serve as a role model in guiding campers through appropriate behaviors, language, attitudes, and activities
  • Participate in orientation, staff training, and post camp activities
  • Evaluate current season and make recommendations for equipment, supplies, and program for following season(s)
  • Other duties as assigned to meet the Council’s goals
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification
Knowledge and Experience:
  • Multi-activity equine facility management or equivalent or related experience
  • Equestrian Instructor certification, or ability to obtain it prior to start of camp season.
  • Strong background in leadership or supervision
  • Excellent organization and communication skill
  • Experience teaching, either formally or informally
  • Knowledge and/or experience in Outdoor education
  • Willingness to adhere and promote the philosophies of Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana
  • Good character, integrity and adaptability
  • Experience working with children
  • Experience and enjoyment of camping/outdoors
Physical/Mental Essential Requirements:
  • Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, moderate lifting and carrying (up to thirty (30) pounds). 
  • Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Minimum age of 21, preferred
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Occasional need to stand for long periods of time. 
  • Ability to focus on detail and accuracy of work product. 
  • Insurable under the Council’s policy for driving and proof of personal vehicle insurance.
  • Live at camp and work 24 hours a day during the camp season, following the summer camp schedule
  • Ability to work and live on site at camp in the summer and occasional weekends as needed and be available prior to the on-site camp session for some planning.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Occasional high stress may be experienced in dealing with staff, parents, girls, and volunteers.
  • A commitment and passion for the Girl Scout Mission and an ability to effectively promote and communicate the Mission and Vision to external and internal stakeholders.
