Clinical Counselor
Title:Clinical Counselor

The Clinical Counselor will provide therapeutic services to women of the residential substance abuse treatment program and assist the Director in implementing and maintaining appropriate clinical care in all aspects of the treatment program.

Essential Duties:

  • Weekly therapeutic one-on-one counseling with all clients

  • Assist with assessments and treatment plans on clients

  • Ensure residents of both recovery facilities are receiving appropriate clinical care

  • Facilitation of weekly therapy group sessions

  • Provide de-escalation and crisis services to residents and staff as needed

  • Make appropriate referrals for outside counseling for clients, family members and children

  • Complete all required documentation, including progress notes, assessment data, discharge summary planning and aftercare planning in accordance with state regulations

  • Participate in weekly staffing meetings

  • Participate in supervision sessions with clinical consultant

  • Participate in monthly staff and in-service meetings

  • Assist with program development as it relates to client care

  • Coordinate with case managers and residential assistants to ensure appropriate continuity of services

  • Promote a trauma-informed perspective to client care

  • Maintain professional relationships with referral and community resources

  • Other duties as assigned 


  • Master's Degree in social work, psychology, counseling, human services or related field required.
  • Prefer candidate with substance use treatment experience and certification from a recognized credentialing organization.
  • Candidate must hold Indiana State counseling licensure or be working toward Indiana State licensure (i.e. LMHC, LCAC, LMFT) and must gain said licensure within two years of hire.
  • CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within a short period after hire.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • At least 1 year experience working as a therapeutic counselor.

  • Strong customer service skills with ability to communicate in a professional manner with a wide range of people. Unequivocal commitment to pluralism.

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion when handling potentially confidential or sensitive manners.

  • Strong time management skills; ability to take initiative to solve problems and work with minimum supervision.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel.

  • 1-3 years of experience with general office equipment (copiers, printers)

  • Accurate, organized, and detail-oriented, with ability to work under pressure and shift priorities in response to changing needs.

  • Ability to keep accurate records and files

  • Must comply with organization's policy of automobile insurance: must have a valid driver’s license and personal automobile insurance coverage.

  • Must be willing to work some evening hours and have flexibility in personal schedule to accommodate the varying schedules of residents.

Physical/Mental Essential Requirements:
  • Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, moderate lifting and carrying (up to 30 pounds).
  • Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. 
  • Need to stand for long periods of time. 
  • Ability to focus on detail and accuracy of work product. 
  • Occasional high stress may be experienced in dealing with clients, staff and volunteers.
