This position is responsible for maintaining UWAC’s financial transparency and accountability through the preparation and constant monitoring of all financial information presented to our Donors, the President  & CEO, the Board of Directors and Committee Members, Volunteers, Agency Partners, Governmental Entities, United Way Worldwide, and the Community.  The individual will assist and advise the President & CEO in all matters of financial responsibility, risk management and exercise authority as a representative of the organization on all fiduciary matters.
 
Essential Responsibilities:  
 
Internal Financial Accountability/Compliance
  • Prepare monthly financial report, annual reports and analysis for staff, finance committee, and board review.
  • Design and maintain an efficient accounting information system 
  • Educate the staff and volunteers
  • Experience in Developing, reviewing, and monitoring an annual operating budget Direct and monitor all policies related to risk management.  Direct the development and maintenance of the finance department’s procedure manual.
  • Finance Committee and Audit Committee,
  • UWAC’s property insurance package (liability, worker’s compensation, D & O, and umbrella plans).
 
External Financial Accountability/Compliance
  • Oversee compliance with all local, state, and federal reporting requirements.
  • Proven experience in the preparation and filing of all appropriate governmental documents- including: IRS Benefit Form 5500s, IRS Form 990, Indiana Form NP-20, Indiana Form E-1, Indiana Annual Entity Report, Allen County Property Tax Forms, Census Report, etc.
  • Ensure UWAC meets all UWW Membership Requirements and all required documents are filed by UWW deadlines, including: Amount Raised Card, Membership Certification Form, Database2, and various UWW surveys. 
  • Ensure all IaUW and UWW dues payments are made.
  • Ensure all designation payments and letters are processed according to UWW Membership Requirements.
 
Campaign
  • Direct collections of United Way funds and ensure that collection of campaign pledges takes place in a timely manner.
  • Oversee the bi-weekly payroll process, and ensure the payroll processor
Leadership
  • Provide leadership to staff and outside contractors: Finance, Office Administration, Information Technology, Human Resources
  • Active member of the Executive Staff Team


 Services for Other United Ways
  • Manage finance related services for other local United Ways. 
 
Relationship Management (CRM)
  • Provide professional, courteous, service to both internal and external customers
  • Actively uses Andar by capturing, entering and maintaining key donor information
 
Supervisory Duties
  • Serve as a key spokesperson for the organization, Actively support UWAC
  • Posses strong and proven leadership skills
  
Minimum Qualifications:
 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting: CPA license preferred.     
 
Experience:  Minimum of three years experience in non-profit accounting and/or five years in public accounting and/or non-profit financial auditing experience.  Demonstrated experience in database management, including accounting and fundraising software.   
 
Skills: Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial statement reporting, budgeting, and non-profit accounting.  Excellent communication, research, and analytical skills essential.  Ability to handle multiple projects and function effectively both independently and as part of a team.  Ability to interact effectively and build positive relationships with community leaders, community partners, donors, co-workers, other United Ways, and volunteers.  Demonstrated personal computer skills with MS Office applications and other software applications.  Experience with Andar software is a plus. Prefer a basic understanding of MIP software as well.
